Modale Barn Fire Destroys Property On Williamson Farm
A $4,000 fire of undetermined origin gutted a barn on the Arthur Williamson property about 1% miles north of Modale Tuesday morning. The barn contained a tractor and two stores and was engulfed when volunteer firemen arrived. Nearby buildings were saved as firemen fought the blaze. Also destroyed were antifreeze and miscellaneous items owned by Gail Gundersons who live on the Williamson property.

DES MOINES The State Liquor Control Commission posted a net income of 7 857 891 in fiscal 1955 as reported by State Auditor C B Akers. Net liquor sales reached 37 453 540 with 2 307 820 gallons sold, up from the prior year. Gallonage declined modestly and liquor purchase permits dropped to 312 448. A 4 000 000 transfer went to the state general fund with 1 872 697 allocated to taxing districts and municipalities through monthly deductions.

Funeral services were held Monday for Lizzie Oldham 106 who was born a slave on a Kentucky plantation. She had lived in Clarinda for three years and kept her own home until shortly before her death Friday at the home of her stepson Charles Oldham in Omaha.
