Shell Explosion at Picnic Kills Three Children in El Paso

In El Paso a 9 millimeter shell exploded during a family picnic injuring ten others and killing three children Velma Morales, George Valdez, and Ricardo Lajen. Farmer and supervisor Charles B. Drumm dies in farm accident

Charles B. Drumm 66 of Wilton Township and Muscatine County Supervisor boards died after a farm accident Sunday night. He suffered injuries when a tree limb struck him, and he died at a hospital.

State Comptroller Glenn Sarsfield predicts the Iowa treasury will end the current biennium with an encumbered balance of 330,358,775 dollars, up 1,367,653 from the start last July 1, and moved to halt deficit spending. Severely Burned In Explosion And Fire In Iowa City

P Lee Krotz of Tipton remained in serious condition at University Hospitals Monday after a kerosene fueled explosion and fire Saturday that killed his 16 year old wife. Krotz saved a six month old baby by handing it from a window. He suffered extensive burns while attempting to rescue his wife as the frame home burned in minutes. The baby was unhurt except for a minor abdominal injury.
