Bluffs Soldier Killed In Crash
A Council Bluffs man Sgt. Forrest M. Grate 19 along with six other enlisted men and three crew members died when a C47 transport collided with a B 25 near Newton New Jersey on a flight between Olmsted Army Air Field and Stewart Field. Grate attended Thomas Jefferson high school and served since February 1946 attached to the 1100th station Medical group at Boling Field Washington D C. He was en route to a religious meeting at West Redding Conn with other religious leaders from their units. His mother Mrs Jennie Grate said he spent weekends in religious activity. Survivors include his father Forrest Grate three sisters Mrs Catherine Harper Miss Wilma Jean Grate Miss Patricia Grate all of Council Bluffs one brother S/Sgt William Grate of Scott Field Illinois two nephews and three nieces.
