Bessire Resigns to Walla Walla Chamber Chief Leaves
Howard D. Bessire general manager of the Councy Bluffs Chamber of Commerce submitted his resignation effective December 20. He will become manager of the Walla Walla Port District starting January 1, 1957, focusing on industrial promotion. Bessire, 35, has led the chamber since April 1953 after earlier roles in Clinton and Colby. He recommended his successor be an experienced chamber manager from another community and a graduate of a chamber institute. He advised appointing no assistant manager for now. Warren Hobson, former assistant manager, resigned weeks earlier for a Worthington Minnesota post.

The 33rd annual Sidney Rodeo opens with an estimated 16,500 fans from Iowa and nearby states. About 100 cowboys from Texas and Oklahoma compete in drone riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, and wild horse racing as $17,500 in prize money is up for grabs.
