Edward C. Kirby, 24, of 2106 S. 11th St., a former Korean War POW now in custody, faces eight allegations of misconduct. He came from Phoenix and was arrested on Fifth Army orders, imprisoned at Offutt Air Force Base and Fort Sheridan was designated for processing.
Edward Kirby, a former prisoner of war, will be released from custody at Offutt Air Base on Monday night and subject to military jurisdiction while a formal investigation is conducted at Fort Sheridan. Charges include false reports, discipline of fellow POWs, and an alleged attack with a sharpened toothbrush handle. Kirby’s wife Dora defends him, stating he is a caring husband and father as her husband’s POW record and medals are cited.

Milford Bundt, 33, of Lanesboro, was listed in fair condition after a bull gored him Sunday. He sustained several broken ribs a separated shoulder a dislocated hip and multiple cuts and bruises and was taken to Carroll hospital.
Justice Charles F Wennerstrum of Chariton Iowa reported to be recovering Monday after a minor heart attack at his home Saturday. He was taken to Yocom Hospital for treatment and observation.
Norbert Locke, head of the Iowa Aeronautics Commission since 198, announced his resignation effective Oct. 1 and plans to relocate to Chicago to join national broadcasting. He will form Ned Locke Productions Co and has promoted aeronautics funding with local governments.
County School Supt. Ernest Barker announced rural schools will begin August 3 with all open by September 6. He noted 108 teachers across 61 buildings and filled positions. A workstop for new rural teachers is set for 9:59 a.m. August 7 in Barker's office. A countywide staff meeting will be held August 26 at 3 a.m. at Community Hall to outline opening plans for 1953-56.

Andrew McCallan aged 101 died Sunday at his daughter's home after a long life marked by independence. He had lived in Council Bluffs for 40 years and worked for Burlington Railroad before retiring. Survived by a son, Seth. 34 grandchildren. 23 great grandchildren. one great great grandchild. Funeral at Wood-Ting Chapel, 2 pm Wednesday, Rev. Howard Dooley officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Eugene Chris Tensen of Harlan has been named president of the Iowa Council of Baptist Men. Other officers elected Sunday include Mike Mitchell Fort Madison Clarence Eppard Charles City Dr. William H Theier Cedar Falls as vice presidents and Graydon Collins Ottumwa as secretary treasurer.
