A wind driven thunderstorm moved through the city between midnight and 12 30 a m Tuesday causing broken tree limbs and interrupted power and telephone service. About 1 28 inches of rain fell with light hail. 40 mph winds cited, though actual speed unknown. Power and phone crews worked to restore service by Tuesday night. a street sewer surge caused manhole covers to pop near East Pierce and Washington avenues. Damaged property included downed trees, a blown electric pole, and a torn screen. Farther afield, floodwaters closed Highway 75 near Loveland and culverts washed out in places. crops sustained limited impact with some leaning corn. Other rains were reported across Atlantic and Clarinda areas.
