Recount of Civil War Battle and Indian War Camp Notes
A wartime letter describes a fierce engagement at Batilé with heavy Confederate losses and over 1000 prisoners taken. It notes Lt. Wright command of a Dubuque Iowa Battery, Col. Rice leading the brigade, and wounded treated well. It also includes a separate Indian War diary entry from Sioux City to Fort Randall, detailing march conditions, camp life, and interactions with the Santees.
