Wheat growers upbeat as price gains aid Northwest crop
A Spokane delegation to Washington secured concessions boosting 1918 wheat prices. Pacific Northwest senators and representatives won terms that will yield Chicago prices at Coast terminals, lifting the Northwest wheat crop value by about 12 million dollars on an estimated 60 million bushel harvest. Estimated price now 1.91 a bushel, up from 1.70, with freight savings improving earnings and grain bag shipments from Calcutta arranged. The delegation noted the Northwest exports more wheat relative to population than any other region.

Smallpox Scare Closes Cottonwood Public Places
Following a mild smallpox outbreak in Cottonwood and nearby towns, Dr Stockton the county health officer orders all public gatherings closed including shows schools churches and lodges until fumigation is completed. Dr Shinnick is named local health officer and City Marshal Malerich will enforce the order. Mayor J V Baker signs the council order.
