Couple marks 70 years amid Depression era adventures
Jesse and Genevieve Vander Zyl recall a thrifty courtship during the 1930s Iowa travels and a 70 year union. He earned money for a honeymoon by brooding chickens, built a life in California, and their family grew through work at Douglas Aircraft Hunt Foods and sheet metal ventures. The couple, now in Fullerton, celebrate eight decades together with memories of a pioneer's journey and a shared affection for old cars and community.
