Being desirous of increasing subscriptions we offer a prize to all who pay one dollar. We have secured hundreds of maps of Indiana and wall charts in three sheets, worth many times the price, and will give one set for twenty five cents to anyone paying the dollar.
The County Council in September passed levies for 1909 including County fund 42c per hundred and 1 dollar per poll. Bond funds collect 12c and 4c respectively with 2c for Bridge Repair and 7c for Bridge Construction, plus 2c for County Sinking and 6c for Gravel Road Bond fund. Township levies for gravel road bonds show Harrison principal 22c and interest 15c. Heth principal 45c and interest sic. Posey principal 7c and interest 6c. Blue River principal 25c and interest 10c. Washington principal 20c. Spencer principal 25c and interest 18c.
A lease is signed for a brick building owned by Harriet Jones just north of the public square on the west side. The space will be remodeled into a modern studio and is expected to open in about 30 days. Uncle Philip Fankhouser died at eighty five after a long life of faith and service to Christianity. He was born May 29 1823 and died September 6 1908 leaving a large family including six sons and six daughters, with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Beech Woods church conducted by Rev H W MckKim and he rests at the local cemetery.
A mass convention of the Democrats of Heth township will be held in Mauckport on Saturday September 26 at 1 30 PM to nominate candidates for township Trustee and Assessor. All Democrats of the township are requested to attend. Amos W Yeager and Mason Dear are the Democratic township committeemen from 162.

In a Maine election on September 15 Democrats narrowed a Republican stronghold, gaining 15,000 votes while Republicans fell 4,000, reducing the GOP margin to under 8,000. The result suggests momentum toward a nationwide Democratic landslide on November 3.

Philip Fulkerson born August 17 1832 died September 15 1908 aged 76 29. He married Melvina L. Binkley in 1861 and they had five children. A Civil War veteran and lifelong church member he had been ill for months. His wife and a daughter preceded him in death leaving four sons. The funeral was at Fairview on Thursday morning led by Rev. B. S. Nye of Corydon and burial followed nearby.
