Indiana Wheat Variety Fultz Gains Popularity Among Farmers

Hon W TL. Ravan cites Indiana Farmer report on the Fultz wheat variety. In 1871 Kagan distributed two bushels from the Department of Agriculture near Fillmore Putnam County. A farmer yielded 20 5 bushels on one acre while seven adjoining acres produced six bushels per acre with common wheat. The next year 1521 bushels grew on 43 acres about 32 bushels per acre. Fultz spread statewide and is now found in most counties with growing sowing this fall. Millers remain cool on the variety, yet its high productivity sustains farmer demand until a superior type appears.
