Lightning damages county farms killing eight sheep

An Aug. 30 electrical storm struck Harrison County. Eight Dudiey C. Kintner sheep perished under a walnut tree near Corydon and another Kentner animal list notes a 40 dollar loss. A tree and barn were hit on the Rawleigh farm with a two year old colt also injured. A sale listing for Jacob Haub’s auction on Sept 14 appears elsewhere.

A Sunday program at the Corydon M E church featured Miss Abellie deHetg on organ and piano, with Miss Gertrude Springer visiting from Texas. Miss Bennett led a final Allied flag salute and audience sang The Star Spangled Banner, raising over $39 after expenses for a French war orphan.

Camp Shelby Letter From Sgt. Taylor Describes Wartime Life

Sgt. Frank W. Taylor of Palmyra writes to the U B church Sunday School class from Camp Shelby Mississippi dated August 21 1918. He laments heat noise sand and dust while recounting drownings in Leaf River and a swimming pool and notes nearby cotton fields and pine trees as well as the making of Hat Tiesburg into a town for soldiers. He hopes to meet the class and returns greetings to two unknown readers.
