Miss Nellie Pinaire and Clyde Duke wed Monday in a private ceremony at the bride’s home in Spencer township near Mt. Lebanon church. Farewell Party for Miss Bessie Meech and Corydon Soldier
A farewell party hosted by Mr and Mrs L A Meech honored their daughter Miss Bessie as she left for school Tuesday night. Friends gathered, enjoyed games, music, cake, ice cream, and lemonade, then accompanied her to Corydon Junction as she boarded the train. Pleasant Brown, a Civil War veteran and longtime Corydon resident, died at his home September 3 after a long illness. Funeral services were held at his hilltop residence with a Cedar Hill burial. He served in Company K 39th Indiana Volunteer Infantry and was color bearer for his unit. He left a wife Rettia Brown, two stepchildren, and several siblings. He was remembered as a quiet, respected citizen.

Corydon meets Georgetown in a 10 inning contest at Fair rounds last Thursday afternoon. Georgetown wins 5 to 4 as Saylor fires eight solid innings and Berg closes strong. Corydon’s Crutcher hurled well and locals claim a late umpire call cost them the game.

County Education Board Sets School Openings and Institutes
At the County Board of Education meeting the dates fixed for opening township and district schools are announced with September 1 for township openings, September 29 for severe months terms, and October 13 for six months terms. Preliminary teacher institutes are scheduled across townships with dates in September including Franklin, Posey, Morgan, Jackson, Blue River, Washington, Harrison and Boone townships, led by Superintendent A.
