John Edwin Pearce a 22 year old railroad fireman was wounded fatally Friday near Corydon when a bird startled a pair of hunters and Linquest fired Pearce’s gun discharged. Coroner's inquest will compare shot sizes to determine cause. Pearce died en route to New Albany.

Thieves dubbed Safe to Dump entered Ridley Ice and Coal at T09 West York Street and moved a safe to a dump near B F Avery Company Seventh Street Road. They opened it and stole 400 dollars in cash 200 dollars in checks and other papers. Frank Hildebrand superintendent could not find entry method. Wagon tracks show the safe was hauled to the dump. Mrs Lotta Ridley administrator and widow of Maurice Ridley is among affected. Frank Francis in jail per confession. The plant was robbed previously a year ago for a similar amount.

Albert Melvin Hazzard aged sixty six died at his Byrneville home after a long illness of dropsy and stomach trouble. Former resident injured in alleged arrest incident
George Ebling senior, in serious condition at St Edward’s Hospital New Albany since Sunday night, is reported improving with no skull fracture. Patrolman William Martin said he and officers attacked by Ebling and his son during a stop at Hakill’s Smoke Shop. Elder Ebling suffered scalp wound from a curbstone. the younger Ebling faces charges and bail was set for trial. The elder is Republican nominee for Fifth Ward Councilman and will be arranged for recovery.

Louis Smith of Louisville died at Louisville City Hospital on Saturday October 1 after a lingering heart illness. The Hoosier Elm Chapter held its opening meeting of the season on October 7 with Misses Luckett in attendance. A paper by Mrs. W. C. Adams traced Thirteen Years of Chapter History since 1908 and was filed in the Chapter Historian records. Local boy joins Indiana University Band roster
R Earl Shireman of Corydon has been chosen to play cornet in Indiana University Band of eighty eight pieces. He will travel with the band on football trips and perform in concerts and university entertainments throughout the year. Shireman will be exempt from university fees and take two hours weekly instruction at the School of Music. Regular university credit is expected for band members. The season opens with the Indiana Notre Dame football game in Indianapolis on October 29.
