Franks and Nolena Davis Remain Remembered in Indiana Obituary

Frank DD and Nolena Fetzer Davis of Huxley Indiana died in 1918 from influenza and pneumonia. Longtime Carmel residents, they married in 1916 and left a son William Valetine. Both were Methodists and are buried in Boxley Cemetery. Their deaths are noted beside their mourning verses from family.

Red Cross Seeks More Nurses for Army and Navy

Washington reports the American Red Cross War Council states 80 000 nurses have been enrolled through October 1. About 16 000 serve with forces here and abroad, including 9 000 more needed for the army before year’s end. By next July the total nursing need is projected at 50 000 with campaigns planned by state allocations. The Red Cross has spent millions to equip base hospital units and supports 60 overseas units and 25 naval hospital units. It also continues domestic public health work notably countering Spanish influenza.
