The Corydon Democrat notes improvements at Marsh Cemetery in Boone Township as part of broader efforts by Township Trustees Beautification Administration and county state workers. Perennial care groups plan stronger funds for future upkeep while Memorial Day approaches.
Two damage suits filed in Harrison Circuit Court as Darrell W. Reed faced arraignment for operating a motor vehicle under the influence. Multiple defendants, including Robert M. Faith and Walter Rex Kingsley, faced damag eclaims. Fines ranged from 1.00 to 19.25 dollars for public intoxication and traffic violations across diverse towns and ages.
Under direction of veterans organizations crosses will be placed on the Old State House lawn this week for Memorial Day. Harrison County VFW leader Joe Richard heads the cross placement with Mrs. Richard directing wreath preparations and Omer Kendall of Indianapolis to deliver the Memorial Day address. The parade forms at Chestnut and Mulberry at 9 30 and moves at 10 00 led by Corydon Central High School Band. numerous veterans posts auxiliaries youth groups and the Sons of the American Legion will participate alongside many locals relatives and friends of deceased service members.
A reception will be held for Rev. Melvin Bertrand, the new assistant pastor at St. Joseph Parish, on Wednesday May 31 from 7 to 9 PM in the school cafeteria.
The State Highway Department will re surface State Forest Road No 1 to the boat dock on the Ohio River this year. Bids will be opened Friday for a new maintenance equipment building on State Road 11 west of State Road 337 northeast of Laconia to replace the unit east of Corydon.
Corydon Free Public Library will extend hours starting June 1 to provide more services. New schedule: Monday and Tuesday 12:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday closed. Thursday 12:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Evening hours aim to help working borrowers reach resources.
New public notices list items including a notice to traffic contractors regarding Thermo Plastic Pavement Markings and a notice to taxpayers about additional appropriations.
The Old Capitol Saddle Club held its first Ribbon Show of the year at the Fair Grounds in a new arena. The event drew club and 4 H members from five counties and featured judges, ring masters, and multiple horse show classes with detailed results. The club seeks donations for a future judge and announces a NET RIBBON Show on June 17.
Miss Diana Grant, one of fifteen finalists in the 1967 Rose Festival Queen Pageant, will be interviewed on radio Al Greenfield after a parade in Greenfield on Monday June 3. The final judging occurs Saturday June 10 at the Hillsdale Rose Gardens with a queen and six princesses to be chosen for the 27th Rose Festival. Governor Branigin and Lt Governor Rock will attend Coronation Day. The festival runs through Sunday June 11.
Hortense Hurst, long time head of the Division of Vocational Education, plans retirement after a hip fracture left her on bed rest. She filed with State Superintendent Richard Wells and hopes to leave Harrison County Hospital soon for home in Laconia with daytime help from Boone Township.
The Kentuckiana Girl Scout Council will run a Day Camp at Harrison State Forest on July 17 to 27. Director is Mrs. Allen Parker of Corydon with local volunteers assisting. Corydon Ramsey Milltown and Elizabeth girls and non Scouts may register. The eight day camp costs 9.00 covering program transportation meals and insurance.
The Harrison County Planning Commission met at the court house to discuss county mapping and the qualification of communities for water systems this year. Officials note Harrison and Floyd are among 23 Indiana counties without planning and zoning, with a new meeting slated for Thursday night.

The Corydon Town Board opened five bids for a tractor with front end loader and back hoe with trade ins for the old unit. A Diefenbach Inc of Sellersburg had the low bid at 4549 dollars and the board approved the International Harvester tractor. The board also authorized Clyde Williams & Associates to prepare plans for additions to the sewage treatment plant as part of a 500000 dollar project with 7 percent engineering fees and potential 75 percent grant funds from the Stream Pollution Control Act.
The Academy of The Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand hosted a piano recital on Sunday May 21. Theresa Bube Corydon played two Chopin and Brahms pieces with the academy's Glee Club and her sister Mary Jeanne Bube sang with the group. Nearby attendees included Mr and Mrs Richard Bube Carolyn Bube Jim Bube Rich Bube and Miss Grace Mae Sample plus Miss Helen Bube of Louisville.
