The personal property of the county has been listed for taxation by the township assessors and they have reported to the County Assessor. This item provides the amount of property in each township and town for the years 1901 and 1995 as appraised by the assessors.
Notice states Eu reka Telephone officers and members will hold a regular session at the Corydon Auditorium on June 3, 1905 to transact business. The 4th quarterly stock payment is due that date and nonpayers should settle. Annual officer election also on that date with counsel to use sound judgment. Collectors urged to enforce toll collection locally and long distance.
An old advertisement claims Kennedy’s Laxative Honey and Tar moves bowels to expel colds. It says the product relaxes nerve tissues eases throat and lung irritation and cures cough without opiates. Sold by all drug gists. May.
The Indianapolis News reports alleged misuse of the common school fund to back a North Side real estate deal. Cyrus J Clark and Thomas E Spafford allegedly borrowed 15555 from the fund under fiduciary control, with Clark owing 7995 and Spafford 6570, despite legal limits. Deputy Granville Wright received a commission from John B Sherwood, the dealer, for lending funds used to purchase lots priced around 3200 each. Assessors Michael Jefferson Horace Hadley and Dennis Mendenhall allegedly manipulated valuations from 75 to 130, contrasting with the actual sale figures.
Commencements will be held in Harrison county at Shiloh June in Harrison township then in MLanesville June 3 Posey township Elizabeth June Jackson township New Salisbury June 9. Township graduates from small townships are urged to see trustees and attend a commemoration. Arthur White has moved from New Albany to Franklin township.
Prof A E Martin delivered the baccalaureate address to Corydon High School graduates at the M E Church. He urged honest energetic effort and warned against negligence and indifference. The program included choral music by a quartet and piano by Mrs Ellis with Mrs Wilson Cook and Miss Annie Stevens. The audience was large and pleased with the exercises.
A half page Idlewild feature from Idlewild, Scott County, by W. M. Herschell, staff correspondent, portrays locals as lazy and sleepy. It includes photos of a boy asleep, a boy fishing, a man on a plow, and scenes in Scott township, with a tongue in cheek headline promising eternal vigilance sleep.
The undersigned will sell at public auction at his residence four miles northwest of Corydon on Friday June 2 1905 at 9 A M all his personal property including horses cows hogs farming implements and household and kitchen furniture The usual terms will be given Geo H Haas. Mrs Jesse McRae of Taylors township is visiting relatives in Corydon.
Corydon Democrat editor reports Capt F M Bartley S D Bartley A B Linder and Jason Kintner left Monday for a fishing trip on Blue River. Julius Rothrock granted permission with conditions no firearms or whisky. They worry about snakes and expect Dr Funk on call for snake bites while mosquitoes bite and snow lies on the ground.
A cannery built last winter in Rockport costing 7500 was burned last Saturday night. The fire is suspected incendiary and the insurance is 3500. The cooperative concern was owned by town and country people in 100 shares. One hundred fifty acres of tomatoes had been contracted. The plant will not be rebuilt.
David Conrad is on the sick list. Miss Jessie Brown visits Corydon friends. Philip Flock from Crandall visited home folks Sunday. Lena Conrad returned from Cannelton. Andrew Lahue sold fruit trees nearby last week. Mr and Mrs John Nuss of Louisville visit Henry Glebb family. Mt Solomon Sunday School progresses under D C Kintner. Cort W Kintner, township Sunday School president, visited local schools. Julius Tronecin and family from near Moberly visited Mrs Trobelsts' parents. Michael Hannel injured when a wagon overturned while hauling logs.
Notice to Harrison county officials that a petition will be presented at the June term requesting a three man committee to confer with Corydon town board on removing the horse rack around county buildings and establishing a proper hitching area. J S Primmer citizen.
A Harlan Michigan merchant Geo L Chubb praises Chamberlains Cough Remedy as the best cough medicine. The ad asserts it cures coughs faster than other treatments and should be kept at home for prompt use. Sold at Crosiers Corner Drug Store May.
The John T. Benson post G. A. R. will decorate graves of deceased comrades on the 30th with Ffrimmer's Chaps in the forenoon and both Lanesville cemeteries in the afternoon. Dinner at the hall, baskets requested. attendees urged to attend cemeteries and hall. Joe Bender offers buggies surreys spring wagons and rubber tire bike wagons with prices.
John R. Kirkham is the champion bee hiver. A children's day program is planned at the U B church on Sunday night June 4. The M E ice cream supper was well attended. Amzi Kannapell and Miss Gr Yeager visited Miss Iyling Helies Sunday. Mrs B Meyer and son returned to Louisville after visiting Mrs M’s parents, Mr and Mrs John Seitz. Miss Monie Anderson returned to Alexandria after a visit here. Mr and Mrs John Seitz visited Mr Leitch and family Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Wm Smith visited relatives near Perseverance Chapel last Sunday. S D Tindall and a family visited James I McKim and wife Jose Ekhart and Sallies Bailey wed at J O residence. Alice and Delila Tindall of Garrett Ky visiting locally. Joan Jones from Louisville spends week with James Roby. Modern Woodmen of Central camp to decorate graves first Sunday in June. Rev McKim to deliver memorial address at Congregational Church Central at 3 oclock.
The Pennington Post announces Decoration Day 1905 events with detachments to decorate multiple cemeteries including Burnville St John Thomas Sheler Woertz Flock Zour Walter Conrad Nevin Hursttown and a 1 pm general memorial at Bethlehem cemetery.
