A fierce Sunday night storm felled buildings and unroofed many in Harrison County with trees uprooting orchards and forests. Telephone and electric lines were cut, service halted for hours as traffic blocked on major highways across Indiana Kentucky and Tennessee. Numerous narrow escapes were reported as people sheltered in wrecked structures.
A Sunday night tornado-like wind roared across Harrison County from Ohio River to the north line, leveling barns, blowing roofs, and killing livestock. Damage spread to Ramsey, Palmyra, Corydon, Nevin, and Pasuvia with hundreds of trees felled and many homes damaged. one woman escaped death in Palmyra as debris trapped a family briefly.
Mrs Christine Mathes Jordan wife of Ben Jordan died at Watseka Illinois after a brief illness of rheumatism and arsenic poisoning. Funeral held at Oak Grove church with Rev Moore. burial in Black Grove cemetery. Survived by husband and two children Juanita and Wayne and numerous relatives.
Mrs Louisiana Weaver widow of Union soldier William W Weaver died at her daughter Mrs Ed Sharp's home six miles south of Corrden after a two week illness of pneumonia. Funeral services were held Sunday at Corrden United Brethren church with burial in Cedar Hill cemetery. She was 76 with three sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren surviving.
Trewitt remains ill but is improving. Grace Carrol of Nes Albiny and Ruth McCarty visit relatives near Union Church. Barnett Quiggins of Louisville visits sister. Mars and Jewel Ferree and family from Larconiin with relatives. Miss Filawced from New Middletown visiting aunt Water Roby and George Stultz. Faith serves on the jury during court term. Mrs. Gus Sehiel to sell personal property near Rehoboth next Saturday. Claud Ashton ill several days. PilauSaturday night event urged. March 17 Manoekport High School play at IA. Abami Association Laveotda High School to meet March 17 at Eacania School for officers and business. Good attendance requested. Fertilizers sold through Harrison County Farm Area from warehouse in Ivorydon.
Four local deaths are noted with brief items. John S Burgess, 86, died at home in Spencer township on Wednesday in March. John TPT Ash, a blue river township citizen, died last Friday and was buried Saturday. Mrs Ea Hottell, formerly of the county, died in Little York Illinois last Friday night and was sister to Ben F. Smith of Dogwood. Joseph Eaton, 64, died in Louisville Saturday and was buried at Wood's Chapel last Monday.
An assortment of poultry notices and ads from Indian Creek Poultry Yards and local suppliers. Breeding notes tout Ever Lay Leghorns and bonded pens, plus prices and farm fencing options. Includes milk separator ad and local social visits through Indianapolis area.
Richmond VA lecturer and preacher Dr Edward Leigh Pell will spend two days in Corydon speaking to all who come. He authored Pells Notes on Sunday School lessons and is noted for his work in this field. Further details appear next week. he will be there Tuesday and Wednesday April 3rd and 4th.
Obituaries report the sudden death of Ollie L. Smith at 22 years, with services in Elizabeth and burial at Cedar Hill. Other items note bees for sale, attorney Ram Vogt's busy court week, and death of Lee Smith with funeral details and a sorrowful poem.
Two Jersey bulls for sale aged thirteen and fifteen months traceable to Prince's Stockwell Peer with titles at Harrison County Fair 1920 21 22. Also Lemmon's Fascinating Fern dam of one bull was champion at Clarkson County Fair Way 1921 22. Additional ads include dairy equipment land sales and local notices from Corydon Indiana with farm meeting March 17 and life insurance offer.
In Shelbyville Kentucky the Business Service Bureau advertises to sell good corn in ear by F O B pricing. A Louisville marriage license was issued March 7 to Albert T. Russell and Ethel Stevens. Kentucky storm unroofed many houses. barometer at historic low, power outages persisted.
