The grand jury met last Monday with Judge Cook and began their inquiry into the conduct of evil doers. Sir Baker failed to respond and Albert Stover was summoned to fill the vacancy. John Louis Frank died after a long illness at age 76 or 77, a respected Washington township resident. He was buried Monday at Wesley chapel with Rev. Lasley officiating. He leaves a widow and children including Mrs. Brown Leslie and Cliff Frank of Nebraska, Charles Frank of Kansas, Mrs. Miller Knox county, Licola Frank Louisville, Mrs. Mitchell New Amsterdam, and Mrs. Kate Mitchell who lived with him.
Relatives and friends held a large dinner for Mr. Jacob Scheler near Crandall on Sunday February 26 marking his 0th birthday. Guests included John Scheler Henry Scheler Adam Scheler Virgil Gresham Lina Scheler Roudenbush Sims Thomas Endris Vernette Thomas and Frank Tyler as the celebration concluded with well wishes for many more birthdays.
Wabash College defeated Purdue 49 to 15 to claim the state basketball title. Chas Lehman of New Albany captains the Wabash team, which remains undefeated this season. Other scores include Wabash 25 Purdue 18 and Wabash 38 Rose 28.

John Anderson 83 years ten months and twenty days died at his Corydon area home on the 23rd of last month from grip. He was a quiet neighbor and a generous citizen. He married three times and had seven children three of whom, William John and Roscoe, survive with ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at Pfrimmer's chapel led by Rev Black of Corydon. He moved to the county with his parents from Virginia as a child and had farmed his land for 55 years.
The graduation examinations will be held on the third Saturdays of March, April, and May. March and April tests occur in township locations designated by trustees, while the May exam is conducted by the County Superintendent at his office. Reading will be based on the Fifth Reader. Henry Sherman, a Corydon teamster, became stuck last Friday at Chestnut and Oak while hauling coal from the depot. Neighbors report the streets’ poor condition with $2,000 in the treasury referenced amid the woes.
Patrick Pennel died on the 17th of Bright's disease aged 80. He leaves two daughters and a son. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at Nington's Chapel with a sermon by Rev. Morgan.

Temperance supporters seek 534 signatures to form a remonstrance, with withdrawals possible more than three days before the Board meets. The Moore bill would extend remonstrance rules for two years in a township.

Mrs Anna Miller wife of Charles Miller died at home near Mauckport last Thursday night after an illness of three weeks from complications of diseases. She was about 60 and interred Friday at Mt Zion burying ground with Rev Lasley at Zion church. She left a large circle of friends and was sister of the late Harvey Lane. There is not a blind tiger left in Corydon.
