National Committeeman Thomas Taggart and Mayor Joe Bell are named among those indicted in a sweeping political corruption case. Authorities allege misuse of funds and influence peddling across municipal and party channels. Prosecution aims to pursue charges in state court this month.
The Marion County Grand Jury indicted more than a hundred people, mostly Indianapolis residents, on charges of conspiracy to fraudulently influence the 1914 Marion County election. The list includes Thomas Taggart, Joe Bell, and Donn M. Roberts, with editorial and press-political controversy surrounding the case and broader implications for Indiana politics.
Articles of incorporation filed in Louisville clerk's office show several new firms. The C Lee Cook Manufacturing Company with 50000 capital stock will produce metallic packing. Falls Cities Stogie Company has 4000 capital stock. Bennett Seating Company authorized at 5000. Danner Utilities Manufacturing Company to produce chaice with 7500 capital. International Remedy Company amends from 7000 to 50000 capital stock.
Real estate notice offers a sixty five acre farm adjoining Corydon for sale. The land could be platted into town lots and sold, suitable as a farm. Inquiries directed to this office. Also notes R. L. Miller’s trip to Louisville last Thursday.
The Leavenworth State Bank case against William Fisher and Title Guarantee Surety Company, tried here three years ago and appealed to the Appellate Court, has been affirmed. Fisher, a county native, bonded the bank to honor his checks despite insufficient funds, leading to a jury verdict for the bank of $2250 in the Harrison Circuit Court.
Cran dall Wright and Ashley merchants have sold their establishment at Crandall to Trever G. Bevan who has taken charge. J J Wright, trustee of Jackson township, and Chas Ashley may seek work as a fireman on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. Bevan is a bright capable local man trusted by residents.
An annual celebration at Union Chapel was set for July 10 at Mr. R J Ludlow’s grave. The notice invites everyone to attend the church event and honor the memory.
