The Modern Woodmen Camp of New Middletown held Decoration and Memorial services on Sunday June 11. Members led by the New Middletown brass band visited local cemeteries to decorate graves and perform ritual services before gathering at United Brethren church where William Fleece presided and read rhymes for five deceased neighbors. Senator M O Bannon of Corydon delivered an address. The event drew many locals and visitors from Corydon Elizabeth and surrounding areas. The Woodmen Camp numbers about one hundred and are highly regarded in the community.
Mrs. Milton Windell and Elizabeth Seig alleged a negro attacker at their Spencer township home near New Albany. Richard Hynes was jailed as a suspect, but an affidavit by Mrs Windell states she cannot identify him as the assailant and asks prosecutors to enter nol pros. Windell also joined in the request to dismiss the case.

The Spann-Rodman Jersey cattle sale at Shelbyville Kentucky on June 6 drew 163 head with an average over 300 dollars. Cows topped five hundred dollars, Prince s Stockwell No 96761 sold to Amos Lemmon and Ed Bruch, Stockwell Daisy dam sold for 525 dollars, sire Golden Ferns Grey Prince 1500, grand sire Stockwell 11500, Harrison county praised as Jersey Isle of Indiana for generations.
The seventh year of work on the Panama Canal by Americans ended last month with significant advances. About 125 million cubic yards of earth and rock have been removed, leaving 44 million to go, and three quarters of excavation is complete. Lock construction is 52 percent done and Gatun dam is 10 percent filled with rock and clay. Gate leaves measure seven feet thick and up to eighty two feet high, with about ninety two leaves total. Twenty two landslides in the Culebra Cut are noted but not delaying opening.

Children’s Day at Bethel United Brethren near Central drew a crowded house despite warm weather and a threatened rain. The program featured dialogues songs solos by Ionia Fravel and Zelma Longbottom, a quartet by four girls, and an offering to support new Sunday Schools.
The Methodist Sunday School of Lanesville will hold a celebration at Stilger's Grove, two miles east of Lanesville, on Tuesday July Fourth 1911. The event promises good music and speakers plus ample refreshments and invites all Sunday schools in reach and the public to attend for pleasure and profit. George Woertz, Superintendent.
Mrs Jennie B Kirby of Vailey Heights Virginia writes that after nine months bedridden with a womanly illness Cardus helped her to regain strength. She claims it allowed her to work all day and endorses Cardus as a tonic for weak women.
