Jealousy Tragedy at Bullard Homestead Ended in Double Death
In Floyd county near Harrison county line, William Shirley, a young Edwardsville blacksmith, stabbed his sweetheart Florence McCulloch five times and then killed himself. McCulloch survived with serious injuries as Shirley died minutes later after severing the jugular vein. A bystander on the stair heard the scene and fired at a fleeing companion, injuring himself on the roof in the confusion.
