Florida excursion leader Waldo Thsey invites Harrison county residents to inspect a Florida land scheme on twenty acres near Hamilton. He claims farms yield high profits with limited labor, offering 10, 20, and 40 acre tracts and a money-back railroad fare guarantee if not as stated. Several county residents have already joined the trip.
A newborn girl was born to Mrs Mro and Myp7 Joe Burs on July H. Miss Pent Levier af Crandall hosted friends Sunday. Crandall visitors included firand ica Boenlof near New Salis and her son George Beal. Will Rheinhart family spent Sunday with Mrs Rheinhart’s parents. Mrs Sam Davidson of New Lansbury was mentioned. Waldo Housel of Linusville and Miss Katherine Bethany of Crandall joined Mrs Abbert House and family for Sunday visits.
In a rush of recent items, news notes the death of the fine registered stallion Day Deauty, bred by Stautt Brothers and Vaelz. The horse died about two weeks ago after a period of illness. Brauth Brothers mourns past losses, with six fine horses and four registered stallions lost in recent years.
The Union U B Sunday school in Posey township will hold its annual celebration in the grove near the church three miles northeast of Elizabeth on Saturday July 26. The event will feature good music speakers and refreshments with invitation extended to all Sunday schools and the public.
Kellertown, from Scott township, defeated Leavenworth 11 to 9 at the Rocks near Leavenworth Sunday. Next Sunday Kellertown and Oakwood meet. Mel Wolfe Joe Bender and Percy Davis caught about fifty pounds of bass in Ifred Elbert’s Boone township pond, prompting a five year pond lease.
Farmers threshing wheat. Lee Simier and Arthur Llardease dust horses last week. Mrs Luarde chairs a visit to Mr Morvan Ace Carty with daughter Elizabeth. Numerous relatives and travelers from New Albany Corydon Washing Towne Corydon Knox Co Minneola and Valley City noted visiting and staying with kin. Dr Grossman of New Albany to lead Sunday School Institute at Valley City Presbyterian July 25. Everybody invited.
Cal Bliss is very poorly. Sam Hottle is seriously ill of pneumonia. Bennie Taylor was seriously hurt while riding Dr Amy's horse. Threshing is almost over in this vicinity. Born to Mr and Mrs Frank Cole last week, a girl. James Roy Eoley gets a business trip to Louisville Strnday. Scott Wiseman and wife visited Willard Wiseman's family Sunday. Lickford bridge was completed last week.
The Georgetown base ball team travels to Corydon tomorrow for a clash with the Corydon club. Sieg er Crutcher will pitch for Corydon. The game is set on the fair grounds diamond with admission one and two cents. Ladies free.
The Corveon Branch will run special trains Friday July 25 and Sunday July 27 to serve attendees of the Chautauqua. Friday night the west bound flyer will stop at the Junction around eleven, allowing travel to Corydon by P M. The Corydon Branch under Superintendent Chas H Buchannan will run three specials Sunday including 6 00 AM 1 00 PM and an eleven o'clock night train to meet the flyer. July 27 marks the last day with expected large crowds. travelers urged to plan both days.
The 46th annual Portyesisth Sunday School celebration program lists speakers from St. Peter's and multiple affiliated Sunday schools plus music by New Middletown Brass Band. Supervisors urge participants to report on arrival. all are welcome.
Corydon traveled to Milltown last Sunday for a closely contested game that ended with Sieg on top. Engle pitched well for Corydon while Sieg limited the visitors to one run through the fifth inning before a burst of runs. Local notes add that Dr. James Dean of Franklin visited the Stover family near town.
A Cheyenne dispatch dated July 12 reports Fred Clark sentenced to 100 years in prison for the assault on Mrs. Littell Snively and her daughter. Clark, captured after a prior Corydon jail stint, had previous trouble including a bicycle theft near Mauckport and a state circuit court trial in Harrison that ended in acquittal.
Last week saw record high temperatures with a Thursday and Friday marking the hottest spell in living memory. Thermometers reached near 15 degrees on Friday as hot winds battered vegetation and caused several deaths in Louisville. A Saturday morning rain cooled the air and brought relief, while forecasts from Werther Boreng at Washington predicted further fair weather with possible rain in the east and south.
The Harrison county teachers who studied at Pursue University in Lafayette for nearly ten months—John H. Daley Clarence Stonecipher Jesse Smith Willard Windell and Miss Nellie Pitman—have returned home. Roy Jack visited Jeffersonville and Mrs Currie PL Hays stopped in Louisville to see her sister. They praised Purdue highly and spoke of the institution’s excellence.
A meeting will be held at the head parlors of the Chamber of Commerce in New Albany on Saturday, July 26, to organize the Southern Indiana Jersey Cattle Club. All interested in Jersey cattle from Crawford, Harrison, Pike, and Clark counties are urged to attend and participate in the formation of the new association.
The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union will hold its regular meeting on July 25 at the home of Mrs. James Lachell, with plans including devotional by the president, solos by Miss Ruth Luckett and Mrs. Kittie Buchanan, a sketch of Frances Willard by Mrs. John Loweth, and a round table by members.
A Saturday morning downpour swept through most of Air County, with northern and southern areas spared. The heavy rain restored moisture while some locales received light or missed amounts. A note from Mrs. Sallie Waite of New Albany accompanied a subscription payment to the Democrat, recalling her teaching days in Taylor Township and Rose Wood. Her husband Walter Kelley runs a grocery in New Albany at Spring and Vincennes Streets.
