Indiana Toll Road Becomes Free Highway at Noon
The last toll road in Indiana, the New Albany to Corydon plank road in Floyd County, was paid for with 30,000 dollars in cash and 15,000 dollars in five percent bonds. The board of county commissioners took the deed, removing toll gates as the road becomes a state free highway. The purchase, promoted by the New Albany Chamber of Commerce, transfers control to the Indiana State Highway Commission from New Albany to Corydon and on to Leavenworth.
