Mrs Josephine Thevenot Dies Suddenly at 66
Mrs Josephine Thevenot wife of Francis Thevenot died suddenly at her Depauw home on Sunday night July 4 at age sixty six. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning July 6 at the Frenchtown Catholic church and burial followed in the nearby Catholic cemetery. She leaves an aged husband and five children all in the county except one daughter Mrs Charles Goss who lives at Milltown. Thevenot born Bee in France came with her parents at age four and she and her husband were married fifty one years. She was a Catholic and described as kindhearted and respected.

Death of Prof David H H Shewmaker Recalls Local Educator
Prof David H H Shewmaker died at Richmond Hospital for the Insane on the 7th after weeks of treatment. He was about 68, born and raised in the county, served in the Civil War, taught in Webster township and Elizabeth, then led Muncie City Schools as superintendent for about thirty years. Survived by his second wife Miss Etta Conlee and three children in Muncie. first wife Miss Nancy McRae preceded him. Interment at Muncie, Ind. home of the deceased.

The New Albany and Jeffersonville Commercial Clubs met W J Miles of the Miles Casting Co to discuss a proposed steel plant at Midway two miles east of New Albany. They donate six acres and subscribe 5000 dollars to the project. Miles pledges immediate start with 200 workers once built within a year, site between the B&O and Pennsylvania railroads near interurban lines.

Death of Frederick Raake at Bradford Jurve’30 1909
Frederick Raake died at his Bradford home aged 75 after a long illness of dropsy. Born in Germany he came to the county in youth and leaves a wife and five children. Funeral was July 1 at Bradford U B church, with a sermon by Reus Adelmyer and Sibert, followed by burial in New Albany cemetery.

Bertha W. Buried at Harrison County Fair Grounds
A horse graveyard has been started at the Harrison County Fair Grounds with Bertha W. 2:17 14 buried near the north end under a limestone marker. Owner Clarence Tucker of Floyd County drove the horse at Corydon race track. Eight horses killed by lightning about thirty years ago are also interred there without markers.

In Memory of Lizzie Roberts Passes at 58
Miss Anna Elizabeth Roberts born November 17 1850 died June 2 1909 aged 58 years 7 months and 7 days. Daughter of Isaac and Rachel Roberts she leaves two brothers George W and Miles J and many relatives. She was a Methodist and helped her brother Miles for years living at his home. She bore illness with patience and remained faithful to her Christian faith until death. She was laid to rest June 26 at Evans Landing cemetery Rev Niles presiding. The service drew a large gathering as mourners recalled her cheerfulness and devotion and a requested hymn was sung Sometime Sometime we shall understand.
