Courier Journal notes about seventy surviving Southern Indiana home guards petitioning for recognition and a small monetary reward for Civil War service. Counties provided levies plus a New Albany regiment. Morgan raid of 1863 is cited as their active duty moment.
An advertisement touts Chamberlain's Cough Remedy as absolutely harmless for children. It claims the medicine is safe for coughs colds and croup and notes it is sold at Crosier's Corner Drug Store with a January date.
The editorial cites a local bank dispute involving a trustee who arranged banking with a bank. A rival bank opposing the deal caused a tutor bond to be voided and a new bond created, prompting cries to end the controversy amid high enthusiasm and political pressure.
Corydon Court installed officers on the fifth night with Past Chief R S Kirkham and Chief Delia Ott leading a varied roster. After speeches, members dined at W H Rosenbarger’s restaurant, savoring oysters. Dr Robert Benson of Buckskin visits relatives in the county.
Mrs Louisa Zenor born October 21 1824 died January 12 1905 at age 80 years 2 months 21 days after two weeks illness. Funeral sermon by Rev Polhemus at St Peters in Lanesville from Pauls Epistle to Timothy I know whom I have believed. Her family included eight children with husband three sons and one daughter gone before. She leaves a void in a long community.
The Bank of Corydon, in 1904, handled 5 728 132 98 in business, surpassing all prior years by over 500 000. It promotes sound banking and integrity, inviting all community business, offering protection from loss backed by assets of half a million dollars and stockholders’ property totaling nearly a million dollars.
An advertisement touts PAZO OINTMENT promising relief for itching, blind, bleeding, or prolapsing piles with a refund if it fails within six days. First application provides relief, price 50 cents. orders by mail to Paris Medicine Co. St. Louis. Also notes a local deposit of a dollar by Christopher Geswein of Floyd County.
John Lahue died at his home four miles north of Corydon last Thursday and was buried at Hursttown Friday. He was about forty, leaves a wife and children, five brothers Isaac B Spencer James Edward and Cort Lahue and four sisters Nannie Lahue Mrs Jacob Cluny Miss Sallie Michert and Mrs R R . His death came after months of consumption and he was a respected local citizen.
Letter from Jan 9 1905 in Lead City South Dakota encloses one dollar for a one year Democrat subscription to Mr C W Thomas at his address and one dollar to forward Democrat to Geo F Arnold. Writer notes fine weather but says everyone works underground or in mills.
Harriet Howard of New York says salt rheum and eczema were cured by Bucklen’s Arnica Salve after years of failure. The ad notes it heals cuts burns and sores and lists Queat A Riely & Son drug store. Also a rental farm listing by Dr R R Sigler Ramsey Indiana seeks a reliable renter with team and fertilizer offered.
The bank's financials as of January 11 1905 show resources of 156 958 with loans and discounts 301 581 41 U S bonds to secure circulation 28 000 00 and a lawful money reserve of 9 313 50. Liabilities include capital stock 25 000 00 surplus 3 000 00 undivided profits 3 173 15 national bank notes outstanding 23 000 00 and numerous deposits and checks.
An evening meeting announces installation of post officers for the G A R with all ex soldiers invited. A campfire and patriotic songs will be rendered by Com B F Peters and others.
