Letter From Allnois Describes Move to Missouri Sale of Property

William McCollum of Chatsworth Illinois reports a two year relocation from near Elizabeth in our county. He held a large sale on February 14 to move to South Eastern Missouri where sons bought a 200 acre farm for 21000 dollars. He notes twenty horses and thirteen cattle listed for sale and comments on reading the paper and national issues.

Stringent anti liquor law nation wide resolution reported favorably

Washington reports the Senate passed a harsh postal bill amendment banning order, purchase or transport of intoxicating liquors into dry states. A Reed amendment to forbid receiving or selling liquor in those states failed. The Webb resolution for a national prohibition amendment was sent to the House with a majority report in favor. opposition argued timing and constitutional issues.

Long and Useful Life Comes to End

Thomas McCarty Murdoch a longtime South Boone resident died February 7 1917 at age 81 after a long illness of rose cancer in his right hand. He never married and lived most of his life with his sister Laura. Surviving relatives include three sisters and one brother with several nieces and nephews who helped raise him. Funeral services were held February 8 at Memorial with interment nearby.

Aged Man William Sterrett Dies at 78

William Sterrett died Tuesday February 7 at his daughter Mrs Wilford Kitterman’s home near Perseverance Chapel. The Paralysis victim had suffered over a year and left a wife and one daughter. Funeral services were held Thursday at Hill Grove led by Rev Mint er. Mr Sterrette spent his life in this county.
