A local sale ends with a final roundup of scattered stock deemed condemned and priced to the bone. The store urges buyers to act fast on stray items and odds and ends offered well below half price.
Prof and Mrs VF Peters wrapped the year with a crowded Christian church concert. The 40-voice chorus delivered strong solos and duets with Miss Nellie Williams and Frank Crosier drawing praise. Mrs Peters and others were warmly greeted. The program featured a cantata Faith and Praise and the audience praised the teachers’ work. Toney departs for Deaniak Springs to lead Chautauqua musical department for two months.
The Appellate Court rules that enforcing liquor laws against unlicensed taverns is a nuisance. In Corydon two illicit venues were shut down and a raid on James R. Tabler’s establishment led to guilty pleas and settlements. Authorities say more actions will follow to end illegal liquor selling.
A successful meeting at Horner's chapel Fredericksburg circuit concluded with a presentation to pastor L B Kendall and his wife. They received a sixteen dollar feather bed with pillows and a fine quilt, a gesture for which the sender is thankful. L H Kendall Fredericksburg Ind
Earle Wilfrey impersonator, aided by Mrs. B F Peters, entertained a large Corydon audience Thursday night. Second lecture of the course featured Poe and Shakespeare readings, Twain pieces, a dynamic European Guide, and playful schoolboy recitations. Peters also impressed, marking her Corydon farewell before departing south.
Elizabeth Lodge No. 578 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows reports a flourishing state with new officers installed N G James Black W G B F Duggins Secretary James Glasgow Financial Sec George T Breeze Treasurer C T Treece and about 100 members. A thriving Rebecca lodge assists the work.

Abe Williams denounces the New Albany Ledger and Corydon Republican for plagiarizing hisBurnville history. The Ledger passed the piece as Tarrison County News while the Republican copied the Ledger, stealing from a home paper. The Democrat urges proper credit and competent correspondents.
The New Albany Anchors basketball team defeated Corydon High School 29 to 13. The lineup included Meyer, Bullets, Wiege, Newland, Hamersmith, Buhelt, Zeller, Fook, Michel, Tabler. The Anchors showed speed and remained undefeated aside from one prior loss. spectators reported a strong high school performance and good attendance.
In Greenville this week mumps are present in the vicinity and whooping cough is being reported among residents. Perry Smith is listed as sick. Rev. Murr conducts a series of meetings here. Charley Sheloff visited town last week. Mrs. Anna Smith, confined to her room, shows slow improvement. A prior report about licenses for Clarence Sheloff and Belle Fessel is corrected. Mrs. Jease Struble, an elderly resident of Heth township, has died recently.
Dr Edwin Holt Hughes president of DePauw University spoke at the M E church Monday on The Portrait of Jesus. He argued portraits in journals and homes are not authentic and contended Jesus smiled at children and was not always meek. The lecture drew wide attention and was praised as one of Corydon’s best.
Valentine Conrad died at his daughter's home, Mrs. John Long, after a brief illness from la grippe and heart weakness. He fell at C. M. Miller's store, was carried home, and died there. Funeral held at a Christian church conducted by John HB Heth. He married six times and leaves four children and a long, mild disposition.
Charley Ferree's home in Boone township burned last Friday with almost all contents and the smoke-house lost. The fire started in the logs and was beyond control when found. There was no insurance. The Ferree family has community sympathy as cold weather pressed across central and northern Indiana.
After sending statements to overdue subscribers and advertisers most paid or arranged payment. A few have not responded and will be dropped from the list this week with accounts turned over to a collector. Thanks are given to those who settled and encouragement offered to others to follow suit.
