Tragic Railroad Death Near Nevin Claims 19 Year Old
Emery Coates aged nineteen resident near Nevin was killed at a crossing north of Corydon when a train struck him as he attempted to board a box car. He died instantly with severe injuries. An inquest was held in Corydon. Coates had lived in the county a year, came from Borden, and worked on Albert Jordans farm near Nevin. He is survived by three brothers and a sister near Borden. The body was shipped to Borden with relatives.

Two Sons Die Within 24 Hours in Franklin Township
Walter and Claud Churchman of Franklin township died within about twenty four hours of each other after a lingering illness and a sudden bout of vomiting. Claud aged twenty died first on Saturday morning of typhoid fever. Walter aged about thirty five died Sunday night under mysterious circumstances blamed on heart failure or possible poisoning. Both burials occurred at Wolfe's cemetery near Georgetown, with family grief reported as very deep.

Fire destroys row of Georgetown wooden buildings
A fire last Tuesday after noon destroyed a row of wooden buildings near Georgetown's Southern tracks. Benjamin Utz Sr, Joseph Armstrong and J A Wright were among the losers. Sparks from a passing locomotive are blamed. Loss estimated at $2,000 with partial insurance.

Runaway Boys Escape Judge’s Reform School Order
Last week Judge Cook sentenced Robert Straub and John Cray Croft to Reform School at Plainfield. The Sheriff planned to transport them Monday, but the boys fled at the depot and remain at large. new clothing prepared for them was left behind.
Gold Discovery Reported in Posey Canyon
Gold has been found in a canyon near the Ohio River in Posey township on George Bowers farm. Assay values indicate about eight dollars per ton. Rumor says earlier explorers found gold nuggets in a cave nearby worth six hundred dollars. Many searchers have probed the cavern but without success.
