Deputy Marshals appointed under Marshal Lewis to assist in maintaining order during the Fair. Named are Srn Brengman, Lawson Grengman, W.L. Dasieson, J. W. Dellinger and JW. Doolittie. Petit(e) is mest oweek.
A new eight subscriber farmers line extends seven miles from the Fredonia road, linking John Maher Perry Caster T Lyons ROH. Hardin and others with Leavenworth via Cumberland Telephone Telegraph Company. The project boosts rural service and enables economical telephone access for farmers as communities adopt the new network. Death enters New Salisbury Lodge No 0 with Albert Joblaten laid to rest. The lodge mourns for thirty days and offers support to the widow, with resolutions recorded and distributed to the widow and county papers.
Mrs Allen Kincely wife of Edward Green of Lanesville died Wednesday August 20 after a typhoid fever illness. She was about 35 and survived by husband and two children. Funeral at Lutheran church near Lanesville conducted by Rev C Schleicher. Interment at nearby cemetery.
The Harrison County fair is underway in Corydon with guests from near and far. Exhibits are arriving as we go to press, and the fair grounds brim with activity. The merry go round tent shows and refreshment stands provide comfort and amusement for attendees.
The Democrat editor spent a weekend near Muncie with Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Marsh and family at their 130 acre country home seven miles south. The Marshes, former Posey township residents, run large scale farming with corn hogs horses and cattle and use gas for fuel and light. The piece also notes the marriage of Jet C Heini of Meriden Town to Miss Ida E McKim of New Middletown, both Valparaiso University graduates, and their planned posts in the west including New Salem North Dakota.
State Geologist Ferward Barrett provided altitude figures for points along the Southern Railroad. New Albany 429 feet Georgetown 710 feet for 650 feet Mott 722 feet Corydon Junction 715 feet.
Mr. L. E. Heady of Fishers Indiana visits the Fair for a week promoting the Farmers Guide. He will supply many sample copies available at the Democrat office in the Fair Grounds. The Farmers Guide, published at Huntington Indiana, claims wide county subscriptions and quality. C. ME. Wheat north east of town spent Monday in Louisville.
Bids were filed by George D. Smith W H Lutes Win Ace Brewer J Beggs for a new town and township school building in Corydon. The bids exclude plumbing and heating costs estimated at about 14000 pounds. Funds total around 39000 pounds with bonds and levies. The township holds one fourth interest and a 44000 dollar valuation prompts plans to be redesigned to fit budget.
The eighty fifth annual session of the Indiana conference of the United Brethren Church closed with Bishop G M Matthews delivering the stationing report. Lightning struck a Spencer township barn owned by Joan Rothrock during a storm last Thursday, destroying the building and most contents. Rothrock saved his horses and two wagons, but hay, straw, machinery, harness, and about 200 bushels of wheat were lost, with partial insurance coverage. Nearby in Crawford County another barn owned by Wim Tronein burned, consuming feed and two horses in a heavy loss.
