Eighty Ninth Birthday Anniversary for Mrs Lucy Hisey

Last Sunday August 20 marked the eighty ninth birthday of Mrs Lucy I Hisey of Corydon Ind in a large family gathering at her Oak street home Guests included her daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs C A Wurm other daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs John Askins of McCreary Ky her son James D Kiger his wife and daughter Miss Jessie of Charlestown Clark county Miss Maggie Griffin of Corydon and many relatives The Bottorff family longevity record is noted and Mrs Hisey hopes to live many more years

Aged Man Benj P Lasley Dies in Indianapolis

Benjamin P Lasley aged seventy eight died in Indianapolis on Monday morning August 21 of apoplexy. He leaves a wife and four children Mrs Eva Ryland Mrs Emma Haun of Indianapolis and Mrs George Keller of this county and son Benjamin Lasley Jr. Funeral services will be at Perseverance Chapel at 2 pm conducted by Rev Benj Eisman of New Middletown.

Railroad Strike Continues as Trains Halt on Southern Line

No settlement in sight for the railroad strike. Information indicates trains will cease running on the Southern road tonight.

Pretty Wedding in Corydon Jeet Miss Florence Damon Weds C Willis Dome

Miss Florence Damon and C Willis Dome were united in a two o'clock ceremony at the Damon home in Corydon Jeet with Rev. F. Raaf officiating. About seventy five relatives attended as the couple received gifts and hosted a reception with ice cream and cake. The couple plans to reside in Corydon Jet after a trip to Northern Indiana and are welcomed by prominent families Damon and Dome.

Mrs Margaret Ferree Dies Sudden At Taylor Township

Mrs Margaret Ferree widow of John Harvey Ferree died suddenly at her daughter’s home in Taylor Township after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at Evans Landing Presbyterian church conducted by Rev Clark of Louisville and burial followed. She leaves four children Eva Cunningham Jew I Cunningham Emner Brown Cyrus Ferree and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and one brother Robert McFarland.

Miles Buys Two Brick Buildings on Market Street

Edgar L. Miles purchased at public auction two brick business buildings on Market Street corner of Market and Chestnut for 13100. One unit houses Ivan Rosenbarger's restaurant and ice cream parlor, the other Miles Variety Store. Miles plans to continue operations at the same location and leases the Rosenbarger space to him.

Soldiers Reunion of 66th Indiana Volunteers in Salem

A reunion of the soldiers of the 66th Regiment Indiana Volunteers was held in Salem on Saturday August 19. Eighteen men attended including Henry H Wise Robert Gibson and Adam Robins from this place. John Rainbolt of this place a member of Co F 49th Indiana also attended. Rev Samuel Mitchell and Rev Wolfe spoke and music was provided by a martial band and radio. A social feast and a large hall feast followed, greatly enjoyed by the boys of 61.

8000 Mile Auto Trip Ends

Mr and Mrs Edward Jackson and daughters Ilazel and Esther Jackson of New Albany returned Friday from an eight thousand mile trip to the Pacific Coast and back They left in May with a trailer camping outfit and slept under a roof only five nights on the road The Mohave desert crossing was done at night and Barstow California saw them laid up for several days due to inflamed eyes from alkali dust and heat with temperatures reaching 130 degrees

Victor Walters Dead in Norfolk Virginia

Telegram reports the death of Victor Walters in Norfolk Virginia due to arsenic poisoning. He was 28 and to be buried in Corydon beside his father, Edward Walters. He served as a U S Navy officer and married Mary Hiskey of Louisville last October. He leaves his mother Mrs Edward Lahue, his wife, a brother Jack Walters, a step sister Margaret Lahue, and other relatives.
