Leavenworth Explosion narrowly averted at wareroom
In Leavenworth on August 7 unknowns attempted to ignite the Conrad Bros wareroom by a kerosene candlewick ball amid hay dynamite and flammable goods. Mrs Overbaker raised the alarm, Mr Conrad saved the building, bloodhounds traced no trail, leaving locals puzzled about the motive and suspects.

Memorial designs sought for Francis Scott Key statue
The government invites sculptors to submit designs for a Key memorial to be placed within Ft. McHenry grounds in Baltimore. Prizes of 800, 500 and 300 will be awarded for the top three designs, with entries due by December 15. A jury will view models mounted at the War Department in Washington.

Dynamite Explosion Injures Two Men Near Grantsburg
Lloyd Froman 35 and Charles Roberson 43 were seriously hurt in a quarry near Grantsburg Crawford county when a dynamite blast occurred as they held sticks of dynamite. Froman nearly lost a left hand while Roberson’s right hand was torn through. both reportedly blinded with bruises and lacerations. A match struck to light a fuse triggered the expulsion.
