A Brief History of the Democrat Newspaper

The Democrat began in 1856 under Simeon K. Wolfe and later editors. It passed through Brewster, Askren, Stockslager, Gwartney, then to Thomas and Ellis, adopting modern presses by 1897. The paper, firmly Democratic, hints at reform and a semi centennial celebration with plans for the future.
