A Ford driven by William King of Union City left the highway on a sharp curve near Cutting last night at about nine. Mrs Mary Ball was severely injured with head wounds and a damaged shoulder and later released from Corry hospital. King escaped with minor injuries as the car was wrecked.

Switch Opened Kills Two in Beech Creek Train Wreck

An 18 year old boy Bernard Shine died in a Troy Hill house fire near Kittanning while his father Frank Kline, 55, survived severe burns after rescuing him. Five others escaped as the home collapsed from a coal stove blaze discovered by the mother who dropped two younger children to safety. Frank Kline and his wife Hazel with children were asleep upstairs when the fire started. The family sought escape through windows and a heroic rescue attempt by Elmer Kline, 17, saved his father who later died or survived. The charred youth’s body was found near the door where he appeared to have suffocated by smoke. The blaze was attributed to a coal stove.
