FAMOUS FIRST vo tech cosmetology class opens in Corry area
The Route 6 vo tech facility in the Corry Area School District offers its first cosmetology course in the log cabin section of the former Elgin Labs building. Six classes with 25 students each, taught by Mrs. Maysel Stewart, will provide 300 hours of instruction before public hair services begin. Students must complete 1,250 hours to graduate and apply for state board licensure.

Delay Hearing In Murder Case In Crawford County
In Erie, a preliminary hearing for Raymond Dale Payne, 39, accused of the August 1975 strangulation murder of 16 year old Debbie Gama, was postponed to late October after requests from defense and prosecution. Payne is held without bond in Crawford County Jail. Nearby, Erie County Court postponed sentencing for John Laskaris, 19, on burglary and theft charges until after his testimony at the hearing. Laskaris claimed he gave two spools of copper wire to Payne from his jail cell.

County Delays Bills as Erie County Faces Cash Shortfall
Erie County commissioners halted payment of about 200000 in county bills yesterday awaiting money from the next federal revenue sharing check. The county budget runs about 1.5 million in deficit, with funds exhausted by December and Mental Health-Mental Retardation at risk of bankruptcy by November 15 without cuts. They also postponed awarding a 5472 contract for 10 color television sets for the jail due to cash shortage.
