Stock Market Slips After Mixed Opening On Tax Day
New York Sept 29 Stocks staged a selective recovery on tax day but many market lenders sat out. Early gains faded as the session wore on with advances of fractions and a few technical rebounds. Investors weighed hopes for news from a presidential- Congressional meeting against persistent worries over foreign affairs and domestic business. Notable quotes included American Can, Bethlehem Steel, Chrysler, General Electric, GM, and U S Steel among others. Separately, fourteen people escaped injury when a C-47 forced-landing near Chesapeake after the craft strayed from its course while en route from Bergstrom Field to Greenville.
