Russians Attack Fronts Near Moscow and Stalingrad
Soviet forces pushed north west of Radey breaking through German defenses and recapturing 29 villages amid heavy fighting. In Stalingrad street battles persisted as two Nazi divisions tried to widen a wedge into a factory settlement with about 60,000 troops and 150 tanks. Red Army gains included 8 key heights near Rzhev and 200 Nazis killed with 10 tanks destroyed in the Mozdok region. A reference line notes a tame snake, the Hoge python, in contrast.
