Mr. Tivwer n Allen of Spartansburg disposed of his interest in the firm of Retford and Allen and moved to the Riley property on West Smith Street where he will pursue developing a poultry farm. He purchased the Idlley property and has overseen extensive improvements including enlarging the home and adding buildings to be used as poultry houses. Allen expects to commence full operation by the end of the year with the Riley site as the new enterprise location.
Mr and Mrs Milda Brown hosted a small gathering on Wright Street in honor of Miss Ruth Calkins soon to wed Arthur Williams. Guests enjoyed refreshments as decorations featured a green and white scheme with ribbons and hearts, marking one of the season’s early social events.
A case of infantile paralysis was reported in Oil City involving thirteen year old Aubrey Myers and his family. Authorities placed quarantine to prevent spread while doctors investigated a suspected new form of the disease and notified health officials. The condition has caused paralysis in the right leg and chest muscles, with efforts to determine the cause and prevent school closures.
Corry Boy Clifton Wer Hammond, long identified with the American College of Osteopathy Kipkquilie Mo, received a college fellowship. Hammond has served in the Bacteriological Laboratory and will lead that work after graduation in June. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Jos Hivinoul Hammond.
United Press reports Warrisbore notes the paralyzing quarantine regulation will expire today and state ponds will be withdrawn for aiaren and drift. Certificates were issued for children allowing travel during the seven weeks of the epidemic. Four cases of the disease were found, with the quarantine ending as a growl epidemic recedes.
United Press reports oil prices advanced with Pennsylvanian crude rising to new quotations. Wyllie notes Crude at 10.00, Cotml at 8.00, marking the first gain since August. Mrs Wilson from Oberlin, Ohio, visits friends after returning from Jamestown yesterday.
Beginning with the value of October 2nd the price of the Evening Journal will be ten cents per copy. Regular readers will pay twelve cents per collection, made by members each Saturday evening as at present. The publishers regret that conditions make it difficult to raise the price now. The paper is among the first to raise prices after sharp increases in white paper costs and other materials. Per month the publishers have tried to absorb the increases in hope costs would revert. With paper costs rising from $2.10 to $4.60 per year, and other materials increasing, the publishers seek to maintain current quality and service despite higher costs.
