Lake Placid body ID solves 30 year mystery
A waxlike body recovered from Lake Placid has been positively identified as Mabel Doukins, dean and founder of New Jersey College for Women, who vanished in 1933 while rowing across the lake. Forensic dentistry and police work linked the remains discovered by divers on a ledge at 45 feet depth to Doukins. A rope and anchor were found with the body, later sinking when surfaced.

Edith Weakens Still Dangerous Near Puerto Rico
Edith weakened somewhat as it lingered between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The hurricane still carried strong winds rain and dangerous seas with core winds near 75 mph and tides rising four to six feet. A hurricane warning extended for the Dominican Republic east of San Pedro de Macoris including Samana Peninsula, with possible additional weakening as it moved across the eastern Dominican Republic. Gale warnings remained for western Puerto Rico amid heavy rains. Residents near rivers were urged to move to higher ground and low coastal areas evacuated. Damaging winds shattered crops on British Guiana banana plantations while Martinique suffered massive destruction with tens of thousands homeless and 75 percent of buildings damaged. Mexico faced two near-hurricane storms bringing floods to Tabasco and deaths or disappearances in several towns. In Pittsburgh, Robert J. McCormick of Barnesboro was elected president of the Pennsylvania Association of Inspectors of Weights and Measures, succeeding Allen S. Bond.
