Residents weigh fate of public health nursing as Cary risks loss of Red Cross funded services. With only 600 dollars left, officials warn the city may discontinue the health program unless civic groups and residents rally to support the public health year and maintain the workforce.
J J Desmond departs for New York to sail abroad with plans to visit England and Germany. He aims to explore business connections for J W and A P Toward Co and to improve trade conditions abroad. Desmond will be away about four weeks.

The Happiness Boys host a Cleveland WIAX 7 30 slot with operatic selections and dance music. WRAP Fort Worth offers a 8 30 p m Central Gold Medal Band on WJZ New York U S Navy Night.
A Cleveland dispatch reports the Clifton steamer sank on Lake Michigan during a severe storm, leaving 28 aboard presumed dead. Rescue boats searched the lake for survivors as authorities traced the overdue freighter from Detroit toward Sturgeon Bay.
Over one hundred members of the Stanford Hose Company plan to attend the State Firemen's Convention on October 6. The event will be hosted at the State Palace with members from Corry and others attending. The company will bring its band the Lark Hand and feature a 60 member girls' choir.
The body of Edith McAllough, wife and mother of four, was found in a car near Erie after an all night outing. Investigators say the vehicle, driven by James Gordon of Halland Street, failed to stop at Stop 0 and crashed near Buffalo Harborcreek after 8 am. The husband and four children are left to grieve. the coroner’s office and local police are investigating the blaze and crash.
Senator Burton K Wheeler toured Iowa amid talk of a new political movement. He claimed Minnesota and Iowa would rally behind La Follette and the Farmer Labor ticket, saying enthusiasm for the movement is widespread in both states and strong support will help carry state offices.
Washington September 2. The Law Enforcement League of Philadelphia filed a complaint alleging corruption among federal office holders in Pennsylvania. Attorney General Stone has asked William Nicholson Jr. to confer and supply details as investigation steps proceed.
In Salem on September 26, Mrs Sweeten confessed to involvement in a plot with Rev Lawrence M. Hight to poison their spouses. Under questioning she sobbed and claimed the pastor influenced her before shifting blame, saying she thought he did it while he may have urged her to take arsenic. Her three children watched as she recalled her past and outlined a plan to reunite with Hight after the spouses’ deaths.
Democratic presidential candidate John W. Davis began his final West Virginia trip, planning a Bluefield speech amid noted Lafollette activity. He acknowledged the formidable progressive movement but urged support for the Democratic ticket. A derailment damaged his private car’s amplifiers, forcing reliance on voice to reach crowds.
United Press reports Tam many Hall will heavily oppose the Roosevelt House in New York state politics this year. Al Smith, head of the New York Democratic organization, will be nominated and launch a strong campaign for governor on a platform backing the Democratic National program and denouncing the Ku Klux Klan. The Republican nomination is Roch Ester for governor with Gersten as a candidate for Pierce secretary, pledging to uphold the Constitution and enforce all laws.

Bary Gross aged 22 was injured on a farm near Niobe when a hay fork fell striking him. He suffered a compound fracture of the femur and was taken to Forty Hospital for treatment. doctors expect a comfortable recovery.
A French pilot Lieut Bale supposedly flew Paris to London 245 miles in 47 minutes setting an unofficial speed record. Later it was found daylight saving time differences in France caused the discrepancy. actual flight time was one hour 47 minutes.
Governor Pinchot trims a planned tour to a series of speeches in October. The renewed schedule lists dates in Philadelphia Scranton Johnstown Pittsburgh and Herndon Roosevelts meeting in Philadelphia and aims to rally interest in his administration and legislative support. The decision follows a recent throat operation.
Wilbur addresses a Denver audience and Donald La Follette denounces cabinet divisions. The talk centers on oil interests and the administration’s stance, with La Follette defending,seeking to reassure allies and justify Wilbur’s remarks as protecting national oil policy.

In New York on September 20 Governor Al Smith is the favorite to win the State Democratic nomination in Syracuse. A Wall Street commissioner offered even money that Theodore Roosevelt, the Republican nominee, will be elected. The national election shows little change with several predictions.
President Coolidge spoke to Republicans in Philadelphia praising liberty and warning against government control of utilities. He marked the 150th anniversary of the First Continental Congress and urged obedience to basic laws while attacking not naming individuals the idea of government ownership of utilities, in a bid to rally support.
A Ford driven by Charles Schmidt of Pittsburgh collided with a Touring Car driven by Paul Heath of Prentice Street near Wheelock. Schmidt and Heath received injuries, with Schmidt and his wife shaken. both vehicles sustained significant damage as one car left the road into a ditch. Schmidt left for Pittsburgh for rest. Heath party escaped with minor injuries.
Police detained several men after they were observed acting suspiciously on the streets yesterday. Officials say the group attempted several doors on the east end as crowds watched.
Bobby Jones of Atlanta, former national Open champion, led Ouimet by one stroke after 18 holes in the semifinal round at Merion Cricket Club Philadelphia. Ouimet, also a former champion, trailed Jones in a tight morning flight as play progressed.

A dozen low flying British planes strafed a Turkish force of 2500 to 4000 in northwest Mosul, routing them and causing casualties. The clash, reported by the Star today, occurred about a fortnight ago and was linked to Turkish actions discussed at the League of Nations assembly.
Extensive repairs are now being made to the water reservoir south of town. The reservoir has been drained for cleaning and repainting and other improvements. An Erie firm is reported to lead the project.
