Mexican officials block Lafayette love gift to Tarahumara Indians

A Lafayette relief train carrying 10 freight cars of food medicine clothing and tools for the Tarahumara tribe was blocked from entering Mexico after the government said the mercy mission would imply Mexico cannot care for its citizens. The effort followed a priest and nun death in a crash while transporting aid and was led by Gordon Blake with support from Father Verplancken. The Chihuahua governor dismissed starvation claims and asserted a strong corn harvest, with the train continuing toward Creel, Mexico for unloading.
