About two million disabled veterans will restart receiving checks with increased compensation totaling 28 million dollars yearly. Under the new law signed by the President a three month retroactive increase is included in the October payment. VA Chief Gleason stressed no action is needed by veterans as checks are processed automatically via electronic data processing equipment and will show the increase on October checks.
The Pennsylvania Railroad announced repairs to the track through Spartansburg will begin tomorrow causing brief closures on Route 77. The Main Street crossing will be blocked intermittently from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. as work proceeds.

Dr. Russell D. Cole, 62, Methodist Church leader and longtime president of Cornell Coffee, died Friday in Mount Vernon. Cole led the Cornell Coffee organization from 1943 to 1960 and was a prominent local religious figure.
Corry State Police filed a drunken driving charge against John Harnak 43 of Union City R D 1 after a Route 8 collision north of Union City. He failed to negotiate a curve, crossing center line and hitting J Ritchie 55 of Pittsburgh. Damages were about 500 dollars. no injuries.
Donald Tammary, 22, was treated for a forehead laceration at Union City Memorial Hospital after his compact car rolled over on Route 8 four miles north of Centerville at 4:30 a m. Corry State Police reported the vehicle left the right side of the highway and crashed. Possible charges are pending.

At least 48 aboard were saved or sighted, with two bodies recovered. Crews faced 10 foot seas and darkness as they located rafts and helped injured passengers and crew.
The Warren County Medical Society sponsored a two day Sabin Type 0 vaccine clinic with 15,932 vaccinated Sunday and 11,726 earlier in the day. In Columbus 426 residents received the vaccine, while county totals show 27,658 immunized in Warren. The event totals ran about 10 percent below earlier clinics.
