DA's Report Details 652 Court Cases in Erie County
District Attorney Stas-Erie reports 652 criminal matters disposed in past term, including 599 indictments and 490 defendants. During the two week term there were 177 guilty pleas, 110 bench warrants, 74 pressed cases, 27 trials, 76 in accelerated rehabilitative program, five remands, six dismissals, 177 continued cases, six due to other trials, 153 defense motions, and 18 Commonwealth motions. Those 177 disposed cases remain listed as disposed though set for next term.

165 Women Inmates Go On Strike At Muncy Prison
About 165 women inmates at the state Correctional Institution in Muncy Pa strike for a fourth day over the transfer of a male prisoner caught with a woman. A spokesman says seven refused to leave cottages for work and that privacy and meals are being managed in small groups. The incident followed pills found on a prison rack and a claim the male inmate was framed.

lid shortage aid group ends joint lid program
Washington AP reports the Commerce Department and Goodwill Industries ended their lid sale venture to relieve home canning lid shortages. Goodwill had lids for 26,000 orders but received that many requests in a single day, leaving many customers unsatisfied. The program halted new orders and will fill existing ones on a first come first served basis with refunds for unfilled orders.
