City officials voted 5-0 to proceed with a new city wide property assessment aimed at updating the tax base for the next year. The session offered little clarity on when the next assessment would occur, and confusion lingered over Assessor Miller’s role and presence at the meeting.
A Union City motorist Merrill Bowen, 43, tried to pass a semitrailer on Route 6 but lost control and skidded into a parked car owned by Betty Nielsen, 19, in Corry. Both vehicles sustained $225 total damage. no injuries were reported. Churchill and Mrs Churchill sail on Onassis yacht en route home to England from France.
Supporters of former Mayor Earl T. Cherry allege Mayor J. Pred Linley seeks to embarrass Cherry, who presided when a triennial assessment was skipped. The thieves removed a 10 dollar bill from Pralick's wallet and left. police issued a teletype bulleting and WV authorities are tracing a similar group in the region.

Police describe a grim double murder suicide at a two story Shaker Heights home. Matilda Wein 38 and her two sons Robert 4 and Neal were strangled by Harry Wein 41 who then hanged himself. No note or motive yet. neighbors knew little about the family who moved in Sept 1. Detective Havel says marks on necks confirm strangling.

In Henandoar Pennsylvania the West Mahany Township High School remained officially closed after a five teacher strike over back pay, though pupils returned to classes in nearby towns. The five striking teachers returned to work, but the building stayed closed. elementary grades continued in the same site.

SALTILMORE Md AP The Norfolk Virginia school board lost its bid to delay admitting 17 Negroes to six all white junior and senior high schools. The 4th U S Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Sobeloff rejected the request to postpone for one year. The six schools with 10 000 total enrollment are set to open next Monday. Virginia Governor Almond may order the schools closed, following earlier closures in Warren County High Charlottesville Lane High and Venable Elementary.
President Eisenhower returns to Washington from a 26 day Newport Rhode Island vacation. He plans to pick three new chief aides to succeed Sherman Adams. He appeared tanned and rested as he left the private plane with Mrs. Eisenhower beside him.
