Developments Seen In Nash Case In Erie Probe
Erie district attorney Damian J. McLaughlin hinted of new developments in the Nash case. An audit showed shortages totaling 18 000 dollars in the prothonary office, not the 60 000 previously alleged as embezzled from a special court fund by ex deputy Richard Nash. Investigators examined books with Bubbitl accountant Nan and attorney William Surney, seeking explanations. McLaughlin said other factors may be considered and refused to specify them. He suggested faulty bookkeeping could explain much of the shortages, citing a 500 dollar transfer to the fund with no withdrawal record. No similar incidents have surfaced, and he warned the probe could continue for some time unless a break occurs.
