A cave‑in on Seventh Avenue near a construction site toppled a walkway and street level voids, sending passengers into a pit and trench. Police reported six dead and about sixty seriously hurt as crowds gathered and rescue workers carried people from wreckage.
Branch No. 5 held a grand ball at Macowbee Hall after a high Mass at St Thomas church. Rev Father Tracy praised the order while Kate Mahoney of Albany, supreme president, recalled the 25 year history of the L C B A. Officers discussed city commission races as votes favored L W Olds for commissioner and other nominees for public roles.
Franklin September 22 Venango County backed Judge George Crisswell in a sharp primary contest as returns from fifty of fifty-nine precincts showed Crisswell leading with 4185 votes to Glenn 1735. Brown, backing the western faction, secured 3258 votes.
Erie Pa Sept 22 2 80 o clock final indications from primary election returns show Rossiter about a thousand ahead of Force but rural returns may cut him below fifty one percent potentially forcing a November rematch. Firman wins Republican District Attorney nomination while Reg Howell leads Nason for Republican Register and Recorder. Flowers nominated for County Treasurer. Grant J Smith leads for Commissioner with Waterhouse second and Kraemer close third. Democratic nominees include Joseph Tog an ail John J Gretter for County Commissioner Bulliven third and D E B Shier fourth. Ross Cutter lacks a wide lead for Clerk of Courts and appears set for nomination.
Harrisburg September 2 Amid counts and estimates it is believed Judge Orlady has secured a majority to win the Superior Court bench. Head trails in a close second with William of Philadelphia in third place.
United press dispatch reports in Washington that Chihuahua has fallen to Carranza forces today. The move carving a narrow strip of territory prompts Villa loyalists to withdraw toward Sonora while both sides prepare a final stand against the Carranza faction.
Concord Township produced a strong turnout with 67 votes for a leading candidate in one race, while nearby towns showed tight contests. In Clark County, Ross H. Cutter led Republicans with 27 votes for judge, Dunn with 13, and Concordoters backed W.8 and Nunow in various local races. In West Wayne Force led 44 to 4, East Wayne split 71-71, and local officials eyed nominations for commissioner treasurer and council.
A brief weather note reports light front in the region with partial sunshine and mild temperatures. Forecasters expect minor clouds and gentle winds, with no precipitation indicated for Thursday.
