Grain Firms Tell Their Side Of Deal
Washington AP Two leading grain exporters defended their actions as they prepared to testify before a House Agriculture subcommittee. Clarence D Palmby former assistant secretary of agriculture and now Continental Grain VP and a Cargill Grain Co representative faced questions over alleged timely information that could have yielded windfall profits on the U S wheat sale to the Soviet Union. NFU officials charged that the Agriculture Department shared information with exporters but not farmers, fueling suspicions of inside information among traders.
