Corry troopers captured Edward W. Stevie 38 after he walked west on Route 6 two miles from Corry. He had escaped from Osceola County Prison Kissimmee Florida and was returned to the Corry substation for extradition to Florida. He offered no resistance and will await extradition proceedings. In Pittsburgh a teenage girl was murdered, Sylvia Rose, found stabbed in her Brushton home with an electrical cord around her neck suggesting strangulation. Police said the suspect is a Negro female.
Royal Hewitt 18, Thomas Johnson 18, and Deighes Williams 27 were sentenced by Judge Samuel Roksiter in county court for malicious mischief. Hewitt and Johnson paid 75 dollars each on four counts, Williams 125 dollars on mischief charges. All placed on parole. They admitted guilt and damaged Lawfence Park grounds, a bank fence, a church shrubbery, office signs, broken windows, and overturned garbage cans.
The NLRB director in Buffalo said the deadline for unions to appeal or join an agreement with Quality Markets has been pushed to September 27. The move follows an amendment to the agreement after pickets outside the markets since August. Unions may join the agreement or appeal prior board findings, with the original goal a union or no union representation election.
