John McCormack, famed as the golden voice of Athlone, died in Booterstown, County Dublin, after a week of cold developing into bronchial pneumonia. He was 61. His son Cyril, an Irish Army captain, and his wife Lily Foley survived him. McCormack rose to fame after debuting Cavalleria Rusticana at London's Covent Garden in 1906.
Philadelphia Sept 17 The Keystone Telephone System ends a 45 year service in Pennsylvania as the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania announces consolidation of the two firms at 7 a m today.
A tracking update warns Storm 10 to head inland along the Carolina coast as residents risk flooding and wind damage. Authorities report three lives lost and property damage nearing 50 million dollars, urging evacuation of low lying areas as winds regain momentum.
The Miami weather bureau tracked a Caribbean hurricane moving north toward the Carolinas. The storm caused about 50 million dollars in property damage across south Florida, with three deaths and hundreds homeless plus injuries. At Richmond naval base near Miami, three hangars collapsed and burned, killing civilian fire chief Harry M. Schultz.
Harrisburg dispatch reports that Pred L Nast was ordered removed from Erie Draft Board No 1 by national Selective Service headquarters with effect September 11. The action ends Nast’s duties on the local board.
In Ellwood City Pennsylvania a formal murder charge was filed today in connection with the fatal shooting of Ralph Swartztozer outside a tavern Saturday night. Tony Conttello signed a statement admitting he shot Swartefager during an argument.

The Garry Water Supply Company completed a third well near the Nort Cory pumping station that yields better than 500 gallons per minute, doubling the output of two prior wells.
