Third Race for Americas Cup Called Off
The third race between Morprise and Shamrock in the America's Cup series was abandoned due to heavy fog and forecasted weather conditions that prevented either yacht from finishing the 20 miles within the time limit. The harbor tug Moran remained offshore as fog enveloped the coast, deeming completion hopeless. Shamrock welcomed the postponement for rest and adjustment, while Enterprise faced little time for changes as equipment and seamanship had performed well. Rumors said Ned Heard might seek a one-day delay if Shamrock failed to win the 9th Hay’s event.
